Abstract

Lightning protective system is to controlling loss of life and property damage from the lightning strikes. Materials that commonly use in LPS are copper which have higher prices. So, the present study deals with the modification of copper LPS. The material chosen for the study is aluminum and it can be done by hot dip aluminising which is extensively used to enhance the mechanical, corrosive and aesthetic properties of steel. In hot dip aluminise steel, the profile and the mechanical properties of the interface between the aluminum coating and substrate steel are affected both by the temperature of the molten aluminum as well as by the surface treatment of substrate steel. This effect has been investigated using microscope, adhesion test, tensile test, and bend test. From all the testing showed that there are changes in low carbon steel when hot dip aluminise carried out. Unfortunately, overall test cannot meet the requirement of LPS standard due to our limited capability.
