Abstract

Fire is a disaster that kills hundreds of lives and damages properties every year. In order to avoid such tragedy, development of devices that use to detect and alert people on fires is needed. From the past histories, it is proved that fire alert system is the most important and reliable system that can save life during fire. Therefore, the purpose of this project is to bring out a better and advanced fire alert system. The project consists of two parts which are software and hardware application. It is to allow the operator to secure the building using wireless communicating fire alarm in different zones or locations with networking. The software part of the project consists of a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to allow the user to control all the fire alarms in different locations. This involves the serial programming to the Coordinator to send the ON or OFF signals and receive the alert signals. The hardware part of the project consists of a wireless transceiver, IEEE 802.15.4 module (ZigBee) as the communication medium, two temperature sensor circuits with PIC18F4620 microcontroller, a Coordinator circuit with serial interface to PC serial port using RS232 DB9 cable. When the fire sensor able to detect the fire and it will send a signal to the coordinator circuit, and alert the operators to take further safety actions. This system is also equipped with a built-in auto-dialling to the Fire Department. Besides that, it has a record database to the usage history. This provides useful information in investigating fire incident.
