Abstract

In general, the purpose of redesigning an existing car chassis is to achieve some objectives from the economic, safety and engineering point of view. This project aims to analyze chassis of existing city cars' chassis and of a three wheeled conceptual automobile to redesign a new chassis suitable for usage in cities with CAT IA. Safety on road is a major issue, so a new chassis is going to be designed without compromising this cmcial point. For so many decades, it is proven that the presence of four wheels or more on a vehicle is the most sensible choice there is. Quad cars warrant stability, and consequently safety on the road with danger of toppling over being minimized to minimum. Why a three-wheeled vehicle? The challenges it poses on stability do not deter neither small nor large car manufacturers to create their very own quirks they called trikes. With already-on-market models like the famed Volkswagen GX3, Citroen E-3 Pod Antistatic and Carver One, manufacturers have been trying to prove that a three-wheeler has the potential to be of smaller, compact size, making transportation simpler and cheaper in terms of fuel efficiency. An amalgamation of car and motorcycle, this trike design offers a motorcycle's maneuverability with a car's comfort and protection. The intrinsic triangular shape due to the absence of one wheel boosts improvement on aerodynamics though increasing the danger of tipping over due to stability being compromised. Our prototype chassis is far from perfect and riddled with errors here and there but given the time and resources (and zero experience of building a car), I am proud to present final design of our three-wheeled conceptual automobile and some efforts in stress analysis in CATIA.
