Abstract

An airplane is a flying vehicle that is very common and useful for all people around the world. During takeoff and landing processes, the aerodynamic characteristics of a delta wing configuration aircraft are influenced by the wing in ground effect (WIG) . When an aircraft is flying at an altitude that is approximately at or below the same distance as the aircraft’s wingspan, there is, depending on airfoil and aircraft design, an often noticeable ground effect. Hence, the purpose of this project is to understand the formation of WIG in aircraft and how WIG affects the aircraft positively and negatively. These can be done by performing case studies, computational and simple simulation approach where few cases of airplanes crashes during landing or take off were studied and some ideas have been generate based on the cases in order to solve the problems causes by applying the WIG effects or any relevant solutions. First of all, the model Airbus A300-600 had been taken as simulation model from the airplane crash’s cases. The wingspan of both airplane were drawn by using SolidWorks based on the design information found from internet. After that, Ansys software have been chosen to simulate both wingspan in order to get the drag and lift forces. After simulation completed, calculation were took out. All the results are presented in graphical method and table form.
