Abstract
This Final Year Project is based on an automated system that works on the principle of car plate recognition technology. It is used for residences monitoring purpose. It is suitable to be installed at guard house and thus replacing the traditional residences security system. This project includes hardware and software development. Basically, the system of the project is made up from a total of 7 parts, which are the Arduino Uno microcontroller board, IR Transmitter and Sensor circuit, image processing program, relay circuit, databases, some hardware and the graphical user interfaces of the system. Cameras that are stimulated by the IR Transmitter and Sensor circuit are installed at guard house. Whenever the IR Transmitter and Sensor circuit detects the presence of vehicle, the circuit will send stimulating signals to the camera. The camera then acted upon the stimulating signals by capturing the image of the vehicle. This captured image is then acquired by the image processing program, which with the aim to extract car plate number from the image captured earlier. The extracted car plate number will then be used for two purposes – data matching and data recording. The data matching process involves comparing the extracted car plate number with the data in the residence database. The outcome of the data matching process enables the system to differentiate the status of the vehicle – whether the vehicle belongs to resident or visitor. On the other hand, the data recording process involves recording down the car plate number extracted in an entrance record database. This data recording process serves for security purpose, with data such as date and time of vehicle entry and status of the vehicle being recorded in the entrance record database as well. After the image processing program, the system will triggers the relay circuit which in turn activating the DC Motor so as to open the gate and allows the vehicle to pass through. If the vehicle that is passing through belongs to resident, no action will be taken. On the contrary, if the vehicle that is passing through belongs to visitor, camera will be activated again to capture the outlook of the visitor’s vehicle for data recording and security purpose. The IR Transmitter and Sensor circuit then helps the system to detect the car entering status by sending a signal to the system when the vehicle had successfully passed through. Upon receiving the signal, the system will trigger the relay circuit in such a way that the DC Motor is turned to close the gate. Through experiments, the Anti-Criminal Automated Residences Security System using Car Plate Recognition project is proved to be feasible and practical.
