Abstract

Edible Bird Nest (EBN) production is labor intensive as it involves a lot of labours to perform the cleaning process. Thus, this leads to the problem where the cost of the production EBN is high due to the amount of labours required. Besides, the cleaning process is time consuming due to the tediousness and difficulties to remove all impurities in bird nest. All these causes will limit the production rate. Hence, an automatic cleaning system by using image processing and automation technology can be implements to replace the conventional cleaning process. This dissertation focuses on image processing to perform inspection for edible bird nest cleaning system using machine vision algorithm. The framework of this automated inspection system of EBN includes the detection and classification of the impurities. In future, with the aid of this automated inspection system and the development of automation to perform the task of picking, the production rate of EBN will surely increase as well as decreasing the cost by replacing the labours.
