Abstract

Smart under and over voltage protection has been done using microcontroller, step down transformer and relay module. This protection is used to protect single phase from under voltage and over voltage. The overall process is controlled by Arduino microcontroller. This microcontroller sends signal to relay module for operation and the input signal is from step down circuit. This microcontroller is powered by dc battery and can sense 6 inputs and 14 output pins. Three output pin will be used for controlling relay module and 1 input pin will be used for voltage detection. The first two relays are used to control voltage regulation while the third relay is used to disconnect power from power supply. Two transformer are used in this protection system and the output of transformer varies to input voltage. First transformer is connected to main power supply and connected parallel with second transformer. Second transformer acts as voltage regulation. It can provide additional voltage for system or vice versa. The microcontroller senses the voltage, compare with the reference values set in microcontroller. In this protection system, the output voltage can provide 216V to 240V when input voltage is within 210V to 250V. Anything is beyond this range, microcontroller will send trip signal to relay so that power is disconnected from power supply. If the main supply is within 210V to 250V, microcontroller will send trip signal to relays for voltage regulation. The overall system is cost effective and reliable. It has been tested several times and give a compromise result.
