Abstract
The objective of the project is to design and develop an android-based car park system with smart assign. The Android application will generate a password to users for access into the car park. When users arrive at the car park and input the password to the system, the system will auto assign an available parking slot based on reading from the infrared sensors. Parking slot is assigned based on user’s preference. For example, if a user book his/her preferred parking to be at ground floor, the system will auto assign an available car park at ground floor. If the selected floor is full, the system will prompt the user to choose another floor. Android studio is the software used in this project to generate Android application for user. Android Studio is the official integrated development environment (IDE) for Android platform development and the programming language is JavaScript. In Android application, there are several function such as register, log in, user details, floor decision, and password. Users need to register in order to use the Android application. After logging in, user’s details will be shown on the user interface. The application allows users to select their preferred parking and generates password for users. Meanwhile, Arduino UNO is the main processor to control and maintain the smart car park system. An Arduino board consists of an Atmel 8-, 16- or 32-bit AVR microcontroller with complementary components that facilitate programming and incorporation into other circuits. Besides, infrared sensor is used to sense the vehicle and feedback to the system. IR sensor consists of IR transmitter and IR receiver. IR Transmitter will always transmit IR light which not visible to human eyes. IR receiver will receive amount of infrared emitted by the IR transmitter. There are two types of LED used which are Green and Red LED. The Green LED will light up if IR sensors do not sense any vehicle. In contrast, the Red LED will light up when IR sensor sense a vehicle park inside the slot. In addition, there is a 4 x 4 Keypad for users to key in the password obtained from Android application. The system is programmed to check the password and prompt users to key in the correct password. After keying in the correct password, the system will check the feedback from the IR sensors and assign available car park for users. There is also a 16 x 2 LCD display to show the status of the system and display the assigned car park number. After assigned, the servo motor which acts as barrier will open and let cars move in.
