Abstract

Growth in the construction from year to year generates construction waste which is cause a serious problem to the environment. The purpose to conduct this research is to investigate construction waste management in Malaysia. The objectives of this research is to investigate the concept of waste management, identify the type and percentage of construction waste and investigate the techniques for reduction of construction waste. The method used to study this objectives is case study and questionnaire. 2 sites which under renovation work(extension of building) chosen to carry out case study. 30 sets of questionnaire which comprises 10 question sent to the contractor for feedback. Result collected to be analyze in table and chart for both research method. From this research I found that there are a few waste normally produced at renovation work, which is concrete, brick, steel, timber, plywood and tiles. Recycle and reuse waste management methods are the most famous methods and most effective methods using by the Malaysia contractor. Besides that, the main limitation for contractors to carry out waste management is financial problem. The contractors in Malaysia is still lack of knowledge and experience in construction waste management. Contractors carried out construction waste management because of environmental issue, since environmental issue is famous nowadays. Application of waste management is growing gradually in Malaysia.
