Abstract

A good inventory system is essential for companies that involve stock transition and stock consignment. This is to ensure good tracking on the inventory and storage saving. As companies expand, it becomes increasingly difficult to keep good track of all the stocks. Hence, the aim of this project is to develop a Smart Inventory System (SIS) that utilizes Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and is integrated with an item retrieval system. The inventory information system is programmed using Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 (VB 2010) to create an interactive user interface. A normalized database is built using Microsoft Access 2007. Two RFID readers (eg: single-tag reader and multi-tag reader) are used to interface with the computer via VB 2010. A line follower consisting of a PIC16F877A microcontroller that is programmed to move according to lines is included into the system for an item retrieval mechanism. The MCU is programmed using MPLAB Integrated Development Environment (IDE) with C language. The interfacing between computer and MCU is achieved through USB-UART communication.
