Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify the usage of social media on the communication dynamics among Malaysian families. In Malaysia, social media has become the most common and popular website for people to share and consuming the information in this few years. Besides, they also able to use this platform to keep in touch and communicate with each other. However, due to the rapid growth of social media in Malaysia, the family communication style had changed in both positive and negative way which has resulted in a shift in communication dynamics recently. As the findings shown, the positive way is they have alternative choice to choose which communication style is suitable and convenient for them to communicate in certain situation. But, the negative way is that if the family not utilize these two communication style which are virtual communication and face-to-face communication well, it might cause a serious communication problem. Other than that, the problem of generation gap can cause the parents and children have communication problem which they have different perspective and ideology. Therefore, this research will highlights about the usage of social media on the communication dynamics among Malaysian families.
