Abstract

This research project was carried out to study the rheological effect of micron size sulphur particles in sodium alginate and nanocellulose fiber towards the modified facial mask and lotion formulation. Viscosity changes, shear thinning behavior and stability of the facial mask and lotion formulation with two different additives which were micron sulphur particles in sodium alginate and nanocellulose fiber were studied. Micron size sulphur particles were successfully produced using sodium alginate and nanocellulose fiber as stabilizer. The micron sulphur particles were characterized by SEM, XRD, particle analyzer and FTIR spectroscopy. Formulation of facial mask and lotion were modified and micron sulphur particles were added into the formulation. The rheological changes of the facial mask and lotion formulation in 28 days with different additives were studied by using rheometer. The study has shown the formation of uniform size of micron sulphur particles in sodium alginate. The addition of micron sulphur particles had decreased the viscosity of both formulations compared to their control samples. The changes of the viscosity for the formulations with micron sulphur particles in sodium alginate were larger than formulations with micron sulphur particles in nanocellulose fiber. It indicates that micron sulphur particles in nanocellulose fiber have better stabilizing effect than micron sulphur in sodium alginate towards the modified facial mask and lotion formulation.
