Abstract

ABTRACT As we all know, the problem of gender inequality in construction industry is existing from long time ago and it happened in a lot of countries. The topic of this research is gender inequality in construction industry. The research objectives of this research are to investigate the nature or obstacles related to gender inequality in the construction industry, to determine the public confidence level in female involvement in the high risk sector like construction industry as well as to investigate the willingness of female undergraduate of construction field to venture into the construction industry. This proposal provide the gender inequality aspect that faced by female in construction industry. Besides, qualitative analysis by semi-structured interview had adopted among the practitioners in construction industry through a non-random sampling design of judgmental or purposive sampling for research objective 1. The answers of interviewees had analysed by content analysis. On the other hand, the questionnaires were distributed to public in Kuala Lumpur area through a simple random sampling method for objective 2. In addition, questionnaire also used for objectives 3 and were distributed to undergraduate in Faculty of Built Environment of TARUC, Kuala Lumpur through a simple random sampling method. All the data gathered from questionnaires have been analysed by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). At the end of the research, the findings were able to investigate the nature and obstacles that related to gender inequality in construction industry. The findings would also investigate whether the public confident will affect the involvement of female in construction industry as well as the willingness of female undergraduates to venture into construction industry. The findings of this research are expected to maintain the equality of gender in the construction industry. Therefore, it is hope that the problems of gender inequality in construction industry can be solved.
