Abstract

Vertical greenery is where plants can be grown on, up, or against internal or external walls of buildings or as freestanding structures. Vertical greenery system has gained tremendous popularity in recent years, and this offers an opportunity to integrate it as a part of public act in cities. A place with a combination of act and aesthetics with environmental principles would become a new urban art that will help extend Vertical greenery survivability and human security in the future. Most research in Vertical Greenery system focuses on an environmental and technical aspect that consider its benefits, risk of implementing, feasibility, acoustic impact, maintenance and general awareness. The objectives are to identify the importance and challenges of current Vertical Greenery system implementation, thus develop strategies to overcome and increase its implementation, and to identify the characteristic of moss facade, foliage thickness, the influence of daylight and orientation of its as well the basic cost. Moreover, this research also to identify a design of moss facade by providing useful information regarding its growth and maintenance. A questionnaire survey was used to obtain public’s perspectives on the integration of Vertical Greenery system. The target respondents were the practitioners of the industry such as Architect, Quantity Surveyor, Contractors, Engineers and university students whereby the link to the survey was sent out to 300 potential respondents. The questionnaire survey obtained 100 responses, and they were gathered automatically in an Excel spreadsheet. The data were converted into the themes to generate results. Findings yield positive outcomes in the terms of the public’s familiarity of the terminologies of Vertical Greenery system and people’s awareness of Vertical Greenery system in an urban environment. It means that Vertical Greenery gas extended beyond the environment benefits to and also become an art form for people in the city.
