Abstract
Over the decades ago the challenge of housing policies in the developing countries was to ensure that basic accommodation needs are met and at an affordable price to the majority of the citizen. At the same time, housing challenges in developing countries have arisen due to rapid population growth and urbanization just like Setapak area. Moreover, young Malaysian urbanites are feeling restricted by current housing options as they confront the difficulties of owning a house in urban areas due to the current much inflated housing prices. This research enable fresh graduates to understand more clearly on the affordable housing scheme that implemented by government and non- government organization. Thus, they able to have certain understanding on affordable housing scheme before acquire their first home. This study also investigated the housing preferences of fresh graduates in Setapak area. Primary data were gathered from a total of 400 respondents who live in Setapak area. The findings revealed that most fresh graduates preferred landed housing with more number of bedrooms to high-rise housing. They strongly preferred to purchase their future house that truly meets their housing preferences. In terms of location, these fresh graduates preferred to live in urban area so as to be close to their workplace and convenience area. Besides, the relationship between fresh graduates current incomes and the affordable housing price have been analyses.
