Abstract

A success project depends on several vital factors especially completion of project holds an important place. However, delay in construction became a general phenomenon in worldwide construction industry and this problem still not resolved until today. Delays in construction were considered as time fall behind in completion of activities from its specified time that stipulated in contract. Parties involved in construction often neglect about it and did not seem to have taken the necessary measures to avoid this situation. Previous researchers overlooked the differences between government project and private project in terms of causes and effects. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to investigate the differences between government and private project in relation to the causes and effects of delay. In order to breach the overlooked gap, 100 sets of questionnaires were distributed to Consultant Quantity Surveyor within vicinity of Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur for data collection. Partial Least Square (PLS) was used to analyse the collected data because it is the most suitable method for structure-activity correlation. Descriptive analysis and factor analysis were also used to analyse the data. Through the findings, the significance causes and effects of Construction project within vicinity of Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur were different with previous researches as it may be due to several factors, for instance, country, profession and so on. In conclusion, findings revealed that the “type of project” had no moderating effect on the cause-effect relationship. Whether it was a government or private project, there was no statistical difference on the relationship of causes and effects of delay in construction project. This finding could contribute to Employer of construction projects because they may get benefit from it, for instance, the possibility of getting the final product as scheduled is higher.
