Abstract

Currently, students in higher education institution tend to lose their concentration in participating classes due to tedious and inefficient way of learning. This will eventually result in bad involvement and academic performance among the students. A collaborative learning system was proposed and believed to be able to resolve all these issues and furnish students with new knowledge. A study is to be conducted to check whether the system is able to improve students’ satisfaction, concentration and academic performance. The system is a web-based application which consists of 4 main modules including quiz game, discussion room, badges & report and survey tools module. In the quiz module, it consists of both normal quiz and real time quiz. Students can choose to play the normal quiz which is available at anytime and anywhere or choose to play the real time quiz game which allow them to perform courses revision with their educators and friends interactively. Then, student and educators can simply start off a topic by using discussion room feature to resolve any confusing issue in courses. Moreover, the embedded survey tool allows students to evaluate to evaluate courses outcome and provide comments. Our team had adopted the Incremental approach for the system development. It is applicable to our scenario as most of the functions are already implemented and we are just required to perform enhancement and add supplementary features. Next, we had chosen object oriented approach to design the system’s structure. It provides ease of understandability as all the work flow and business logic are described using UML diagrams. For testing phase, we had used black box testing and incremental testing approach to ensure every module are error free before integration. Finally, an analysis was conducted by using the feedback provided by students after using the system through questionnaire. As a closing, the system will able to enhance students’ attention, involvement, and their academic performance. Besides, it acted as a medium for educators to keep track their students.
