Abstract

Frequency modulation (FM) is a method of impressing data onto an alternating current (AC) wave by varying the instantaneous frequency of the wave. The impressed data can be recovered by converting the instantaneous frequency back to an instantaneous voltage. This project is about Frequency Modulated Visible Light Communication through Free Space. It is definitely a new research in visible light communication through free space as there is virtually no research being done in this area. Besides that, the concept of visible light communication (VLC), frequency modulation and several comparisons between the components used have been discussed. The problem statement, research background, research objective, research scope and research contribution have been discussed in chapter 1 introduction. In chapter 2, the basic concept of frequency modulation (FM) and visible light communication (VLC) was discussed. Several advantages of both technique FM and VLC also being discussed in literature review. Moreover, the comparison of different wireless communication such as Infrared (IR) vs VLC also discussed. Other than that, the comparison between components used such as light emitting diode (LED) and laser diode also had been discussed including their advantages and disadvantages. In chapter 3 methodology, the basic concept involving technique such as phase locked loop (PLL) has been discussed. The basic circuits of this project is also shown in chapter 3. Moreover, the required hardware such as micro power CD4046 and laser diode had been discussed. The schedule planning in detail of task also had been listed out in a grant chart. In chapter 4 and chapter 5, the relationship between current located at phototransistor and distance had been test. Moreover, the frequency of sound before and after go through the IV circuit also analysis by MATLAB. Chapter 5 discuss about overall project on different aspect. Lastly, Chapter 6 discuss about future upgrade of this project.
