Abstract

There is a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency globally yet, not much people are aware of it. In Malaysia, this problem has permeated all life stages and it requires more attention. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the knowledge, attitude and practice regarding vitamin D among the staffs in Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TARUC). The relationship between socio-demographic factors and domains, as well as correlations between domains itself are also examined. Methods: 66 participants were selected randomly to answer a questionnaire consisting of 4 sections, the sociodemographics part, knowledge, attitude and practice regarding vitamin D. Results: The staffs had moderate general knowledge (68.871), poor nutrition knowledge (50.000), attitude (59.642) and practice (53.106) regarding vitamin D. Overall, being older at age 55- 64, Indian men with higher education (tertiary level) and higher monthly household income above RM 14000 had better knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) level. No significant association between gender, age, ethnicity, education level, monthly household income and KAP was observed. In term of correlation between domains, only a weak positive correlation between general knowledge and attitude was found to be statistically significant (p=0.011). Conclusion: The findings have provided some valuable insights towards the KAP of vitamin D among TARUC staffs. Relevant interventions such as health promoting campaign should be organized by incumbent parties to improve the KAP regarding vitamin D in order to enhance overall health.
