Abstract

Body Image Concern and Self Presentation shown to be associated with Social Physique Anxiety. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between Body Image Concern, Self-Presentation effects on Social Physique Anxiety. The qualitative research employed the manual survey method for data collection. A total of 159 students (75 males and 84 female; M Age =19.91; SD=1.321) from Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, KL Main Campus participated in this study. Participants competed three questionnaire which is the Body Image Concern Questionnaire (Littleton et al., 2005) consisting of 19 items, Self-Presentation in Sport Questionnaire (McGowan et al., 2008) consisting of 21 items and Social Physique Anxiety Questionnaire (Hart, Leary, &Rejeski, 1989)consisting of 7 items respectively. Additional demographic data collected was types of sports, competition level. Descriptive statistic on the students’ demographic data were analysed. Inferential statistic (Pearson product-moment correlation, Independent T- Test and One-way MANOVA) were used to analyse the data. Correlation analyse revealed the body image concern (r=0.473), Self-Presentation (r=0.404) and has a positive correlation towards Social Physique Anxiety (r=0.528). Result shows that there is a significant difference in competition level (p=0.011).There is no significant difference in Age, Sports Type, Gender This study indicated that Body Image Concern and Self Presentation do play a role in effecting Social Physique Anxiety.
