Abstract

In this study, the effects of humidity and temperature on adhesion against rubber with steel cord and textile are being investigated. From the previous studies, adhesion of the calendared steel of two different brands has undergone adhesion testing for a period of 3 months. The results obtained in Continental PJ showed a drop of adhesion for one of the calendared steels within the period of three months. Continental suspected humidity may be the factor that have affected the adhesion between the steel cords and rubber due to the high humidity in PJ. Through this project, static adhesion tests were carried out on rubber and steel cord together with peel adhesion tests on rubber and textile by using Universal Testing Machine. These samples are being stored in three different location with a range of relative humidity and temperature. Each batch of the samples was tested for a month to check on the effect of humidity and temperature. It is expected that the humidity may not have effects on the adhesion of calendared steel cord and textile.
