Abstract
This research investigates the relationship between social media usage and life satisfaction among undergraduates in a private university in Kuala Lumpur. The objectives of this study are to identify the level of life satisfaction and to examine the relationship between social media usage and life satisfaction. The research methodology of this study was in a cross-sectional, quantitative, and correlational design. The instrument used to measure undergraduates’ life satisfaction is known as Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) while undergraduates’ social media usage is measured using Social Networking Activity Intensity Scale (SNAIS). A total of 137 undergraduates partook in this study and were sampled through convenience sampling. The 20th version of the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was utilised by the researcher to analyse the data. The results obtained from the analysis were that there was the highest number of undergraduates found to be slightly satisfied with life, amounting one-third of the total respondents (M = 22.82; SD =5.83). There was a significant positive relationship between social media usage and life satisfaction among undergraduates in a private university in Kuala Lumpur (r = .18; p < .05).
