Abstract
Yoga is an exercises which has shown to improve physical and mental benefits.Optimism has been shown to exist among people whom are involved in physical activity. The purpose of the study was to examine the effect of 6 weeks of yoga training on optimistic behaviour among college students. Optimism is measured using the LOT-R Questionnaire. The LOT-R Questionnaire has two dimensions which are optimism and pessimism. Each dimension has 3 items. This research will only obtain the optimism scores. A total of 28 subjects aged between 18 to 24 years old from Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) participated in the study. Subjects were divided into 2 groups using systematic counter balancing method by LOT-R test pre-test scores and was randomly assigned into Experimental Group (EG, n=14) and Control Group (CG, n=14). The research design is pre-test – intervention – post-test. EG went through 6 weeks of yoga trainingwhile CG were not involved in any activities. Subjects came for twice a week for the yoga session. The EG had shown no significant difference (p=0.073) between pre-test and post-test. The CG also had shown no significant difference (p=0.547) between pre-test and post-test. In the post-test there was a significant difference (p=0.032) between EG and CG. This concluded that 6 weeks of yoga training had shown difference between the groups but not within the groups.
