Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of induced muscle fatigue with kinesio tape applied on anaerobic performance among active individuals. A total number of 14 subjects who were physically active from Tunku Abdul Rahman University College were recruited in this study. All the subjects underwent one baseline measurement and two different conditions in randomized order: kinesio taping condition and no tape condition. Taping method that used in this study was facilitation with Y shape on both hamstring and quadriceps. At least 7 days apart were required between conditions. Wingate anaerobic test was used to test their peak power output, average power output and percentage of power drop. Results showed significant in peak power output and average power output (p<0.05) between no tape condition and baseline measurement with the mean value of no tape condition (peak power output: 10.49: average power output: 8.40) lower than baseline measurement (peak power output: 11.49: average power output: 8.67) and kinesio tape condition (peak power output: 10.73: average power output: 8.67). In conclusion, withkinesio tape applied during muscle fatigue task and given a 5 to 10 minutes rest, thesubjects are able to recover their anaerobic power. Prior to exercise, kinesio tape can be applied on the muscle to help maintain anaerobic power.
