Abstract

This study investigates the extent of Instagram influence on female’s self perception and satisfaction on body image, aged between 18 and 25. The growing concern of body image among female is highly related to the increasing number of social media that enables users to create and share contents by posting photos or videos. There were a total of 400 participants females who took part in this study. A quantitative approach was used and questionnaire forms were distributed to female respondents at four different malls in Penang. The questionnaire forms consist of two parts which are respondents’ demographic and ten statements using six-point likert scale to measure self perception and satisfaction towards female’s body image. The data from these questionnaires were analysed by using the SPSS. The analysis revealed that majority of the females were influenced by social media after viewing images of models or celebrities and Instagram does has a certain extent of impact and influences females’ self perception and satisfaction towards their body image.
