Abstract

In this study, graphene/silver/molybdenum disulphide (G/Ag/MoS2) composites materials were prepared via green solvothermal synthesis method and evaluated as supercapacitor electrodes. The morphology and structure of composites were examined by applying Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), and Raman spectroscopy. Nonetheless, electrochemical performances and cycle performance of the composites were evaluated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) test. The electrochemical results of the ternary composite electrodes tested under 25, 50 and 100 mV/s scan rate demonstrated on average, improved specific capacitance of 56.12 F/g, which is about 21.24% higher than that of G/MoS2 binary composite electrodes. Graphene in the ternary composites was found to provide better electrochemical performance at 100 cycle as compared to binary composite electrodes that contain no graphene. Nevertheless, graphene displayed better electrochemical performance as compared to reduced graphene oxide (rGO) due to lesser degree of defect in it, which retains the electrical conductivity of the system. Lastly, silver-based electrodes was observed to provide better electrochemical performance as compared to silver oxide-based electrodes due to better electrical conductivity in silver.
