Abstract

The high percentage of silica in rice husk opens up the potential to replace the conventional silica as filler in the field of rubber industries. In this project, rice husk derived fillers denoted as RH, RHA (C) and RHA (IC) were incorporated into the rubber compounding compared with unfilled vulcanizates and silica filled vulcanizates. The main goal of this project is to determine the properties such as vulcanizing properties and mechanical properties of the vulcanized rubber after added with filler such as silica, rice husk, rice husk ash (completely combusted) and rice husk ash (incompletely combusted) at the part per hundred of 5 and 10. The characteristic of the fillers such as surface morphology, particles size and composition will be determine using Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis. The vulcanizing properties of the specimens will be determine using Moving Die Rheometer at temperature of 140oC. The samples were evaluated for its mechanical properties such as tensile properties and hardness via Tensile Testing and Hardness Testing. Aging Test were also conducted to determine the aging behaviour of the samples.
