Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of 6-week core stability training (Sling Exercise Training) on throwing velocity and accuracy among dodgeball club players. A total of 30 Earthshakers Dodgeball club players were recruited (sport experience; 3.43 ± 1.22 years; age: 22.67 ± 1.88 years old; height: 167.27 ± 5.80 cm; weight: 63.67 ± 9.96 kg) in this study. Subjects were divided into two groups (Control Group: CG, N = 15; Experimental Group: EG, N = 15). EG involved in a 6-weeks core stability training programme, trained twice per week while CG did not participate in 6-weeks core stability training. Both groups were required to perform pre-test before intervention and post-test after 6-week intervention. Core stability training was a sling-based exercises training (SET) which trained on suspension band also known as an unstable surface. The test involved throwing velocity test (Radar Gun, Stalker Sport), accuracy test (Functional Throwing Performance Index), and side bridge test. Before pre-test, pilot test for three tests were carried out by Alliance dodgeball club players. Data were analysed by using independent-t test and paired sample t-test. Results showed that there was a significant difference in pre-throwing velocity test and post-throwing velocity test for EG (p < .05) with a 4.03 % improvement. Besides, there were also a significant difference in pre-accuracy test and post-accuracy test for EG (p < .05) with a 16.28 % improvement. However, results in pre and post of throwing velocity test and accuracy test had a slight decrement. In conclusion, core stability training able to improve throwing velocity and accuracy in this study.
