Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of imagery training associated with music on basketball free-throw performance among recreational basketball players. A total of 34 subjects (age= 22.79±1.12, height= 175.12±6.55, weight= 73.07±11.37, years of basketball experience= 9.47±3.20) participated in this study. They were randomly assigned into 4 groups (Imagery-Music Group= 8, Music Group= 8, Imagery Group= 9, Physical Throw Group= 9) after the pre-test of basketball free-throw using systematic-counter-balancing method. The intervention lasted for 6-Week, while subject’s free throw performance and heart rate response were measured during post-test. Inferential statistics revealed that there was no significant difference among training modes on free-throw performance and heart rate response at p<0.05 condition. However, significant improvement in pre-post free-throw mean scores was observed in IMG (p=.001) and IG (p=.001). Significant improvement in the pre-post heart rate response was also found in IMG (p=.022) and MG (p=.025). Results showed that no training mode was significantly better as compared to one another on basketball free-throw performance.
