Abstract

Lack of exercise has been connected to different type of health problems. Especially in student life, why students don‘t participate in exercise has become a popular questions. There are also motives to participate in exercise and it varies among different students. But what is the motives that cause students to participate in exercise has also become a popular questions. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the barriers and motivations of Tunku Abdul Rahman University students to exercise according to age, gender, education level, working status and physical activity level. Total of 388 participants had participated in this study by completing the questionnaire for Barriers to Being Active Quiz (BBAQ) and Physical Activity Leisure Motivation Scale (PALMS). The demographic data consisted of age, gender, education level, working status and physical activity level. The results of this study showed there was significant difference (p< .05) for Barriers to Being Active Quiz (BBAQ) according to education level and physical activity level. There was significant difference for Physical Activity Leisure Motivation Scale (p< .05) according to age, gender, education level, working status and physical activity level. In conclusion, the results in this study indicated the barriers and motivations to exercise on Tunku Abdul Rahman University College students.
