Abstract

As time has permitted the evolvement of the technology along with the internet, the methods of news consumption have shifted from a traditional media to a digitised media. In this research, the objective studied was the preferred methods of online news consumption between social media and online English news portals. Another objective that the researcher studied were the reasons behind the preference of the chosen option. The researcher based the variables of this research on the Uses and Gratifications Theory and Media Dependency Theory. Upon identifying the research variables and methods, the researcher conducted a study on 100 young adults living in West Malaysia, aged 18-26 years old.
