Abstract

This research is to address the barriers and the challenges for the successful implementation of Green Building (GB) such as the mindset & mentality of the public and how they perceive GB as general as well as the shortcomings of Green Building Index in Malaysia as it is less adopted in construction projects. The research objectives are clarified in the literature review and there are 5 issues that have been highlighted as the challenges in the implementation of GB projects in Malaysia and comparing the criteria of GBI with Green Mark and LEED. The results will show what are the known factors for the unsuccessful implementation of GB? How construction professionals view GB using their knowledge and experience whether GB should be implemented or is GBI not a good rating tool?
