Abstract

This research mainly focuses on finding out the level of trust in the news media among Malaysia young adults and the indicators of trust that determine whether trust or distrust in news media. It believes that to find out the indicators of trust can help in determining the level of trust in the news media therefore can support the media organization. In media organizations, the one who earns more trust from the audiences has the advantage in growing their credibility and audience. Furthermore, a high level of trust in the news media also can help the media organization to enhance their power therefore can earn more profit. Besides, to enhance the media power can help in distributing news and information to society more efficiently. Then, the theory used in this thesis is Agenda Setting theory. It believes that the higher the persuasive power of the media organizations, the higher the level of trust in the news media among the audiences. Finally, this thesis finds out that Malaysian young adults have a high level of trust in the news media and they focus more on the accuracy and unbiased reporting of news by using the research methods of online survey questionnaires.
