Abstract
Malaysia is a well-known multiracial country with three main races of Malay, Chinese and Indians. There are more multiracial films produced in Malaysia starting 2004 after Yasmin Ahmad’s film - Sepet . Malaysians started to accept and love multiracial films after the rise of multiracial films. Therefore, Ola Bola (2016) was chosen for this study as it is a key example of representing Malaysia’s multiracial society. The objective of this research is to analyse the perceptions of Malaysians towards Malaysia multiracial film: Ola Bola (2016), as it is said to have an impact on racial harmony. Films seem to be a good platform to promote racial harmony and give out information on other’s races. The theories to support this study are Cognitive Film Theory and Social Cognitive Theory. Cognitive Film Theory shows that watching films is able to educate people, and Social Cognitive Theory is related to Cognitive Film Theory which says that films have the power to influence people’s behaviour, which is proved by this research as the Malaysians are influenced by Ola Bola (2016). Moreover, the data analyzed for this study is from a sample of 100 Malaysian respondents by an online survey questionnaire from different demographics, as to understand the different perspectives of Malaysians towards the film. As to conclude this research, it is proved that by watching Ola Bola (2016) there is much valuable knowledge and attitude that has been learnt and changed by Malaysians.
