Abstract

The development of construction industry in Malaysia nowadays which indicated slow pace. Due to a strong demand from enterprises in the plantation, agriculture, manufacturing and construction sectors which lead to a huge influx of foreign workers into the country. Therefore, demands on labour force nowadays increased rapidly each year, especially in construction sector. Furthermore, there are several issues found over a decades due to overly reliance on manpower in construction industry and it is still the major causes of blocking the development opportunity to the country. For instance, the large number of foreign workers is seen as a security threat as it is associated with rising crime rate and contagious diseases, safety management-related problems because of differences in language, culture, and living habits. Therefore, is there a need to look for alternative instead of keep focusing on labour? Thus, the research was to identify the impacts on overly reliance on manpower in construction industry and the readiness of conventional methods (human power) replace by automation technology in the future construction industry in Malaysia. Chapter 2 will be collected the secondary data to explain the research objective which the Chapter 4 will provide primary data to support the secondary data with questionnaire analysis by SPSS. It also identifies the advancing development in other countries which adopted Automation or Robotic technologies’ knowledge and skills for case study that can be further develop in the future construction industry in Malaysia.
