Abstract

In this project report, we study the Lie symmetry method and apply the multiplier approach method to find the conservation law on the modified Hunter-Saxton equation. We also verify the conserved vectors by applying the definition of conservation law. We determine whether Lie symmetries and conserved vectors are associated to modified Hunter-Saxton equation. We focus more on the double reduction method which is used to reduce the partial differential equation (PDE) into ordinary differential equation (ODE) for modified Hunter-Saxton equation and hence solve the equation to obtain exact solution.
