Abstract

The purpose of this project is to change the traditional teaching method and the method of taking attendance by using the mobile application or web application. Nowadays, the traditional method of face-to-face education do not support distance learning and the schedule of the traditional classroom is not flexible. Moreover, the manual attendance system in traditional classroom is time consuming and inefficient. To overcome the problem, this project has been proposed with two modules which are live streaming module and automated attendance module. The live streaming module capture the video from the camera module of Raspberry Pi 3 and stream the video to local web and the automated attendance module take students’ attendance by using the face recognition technique. The methodology to be used in this project is waterfall model. The development phase will be the start of the sequence of requirement analysis, system design, system implementation, system testing, system deployment and system maintenance. This project is developed using NetBeans IDE, Android Studio and Python 3 IDE. The database used is Google Firebase. The testing methods have been used in this project are unit test and user acceptance test. This project able to live streaming the class to local web and allow the lecturer to take students’ attendance with face recognition technique. However, the accuracy of the face recognition need to be improved by continuing improve the algorithm of the face recognition. By working on this project, I have learnt new language which is Python and experience in Internet of Things by using Raspberry Pi 3 Model B.
