Abstract
In Malaysia, the construction sector has been analysed as one of the most risk sector compare to other industry, because measured by work-related mortality, worker’s compensation, injury and fatality rates. The rate of occupational accidents is increasing, leading to a number of organizational deficiencies. Thus, this research is aim to identify the factors causing improper safety management in construction project from contractor’s perspective and to review the government efforts in improving Health and Safety performance in construction sector. With this research, it provides the reader with a clearer understanding and real comprehension about importance of H&S on the site construction. Besides, this research also provide a fundamental ground for researcher to know the level of compliance of the companies. By understanding the company's compliance level, researchers may be able to identify the realities and the real picture of the construction site. A mixed method was used in the main data collection, which included questionnaires through online and face-to-face delivery and semi-structured interviews. In the data analysis of this study, the descriptive analysis and frequency analysis method in SPSS software will be adopted to achieve the objective of this research. The limitations of this study were the low response rate, the inability to cover larger areas of Malaysia, as well as the time constraints. Therefore, future research may consider increasing the sample size and integrating more data collection methods.
