Abstract

This dissertation was about the practice of construction waste management in Malaysia construction industry. Construction waste can be define as any unwanted or discard material, substance or thing which is generated due to the construction work like renovation, demolition, site clearance, excavation and refurbishment. For example the construction waste are concrete, tiles, ceramics, wood, glass, plastic, metallic waste, contaminated soil, stones, cement, paint and gypsum. The objective of this study is to determine the successful factors for construction waste management in developed countries, identify the significant of the waste management factors in Malaysia construction industry and to determine the ways to improve the construction waste management in Malaysia construction industry. The successful factors for construction waste management in developed countries in England and Hong Kong are site waste management plan (SWMP), waste efficiency procurement, legislative and tax measures, off-site construction, construction waste disposal charging scheme (CWDCS), on-site waste sorting and off-site waste sorting. Then, the factors of construction waste management ineffectiveness are shown in table 2.4. Whereas the ways to improve the construction waste in Malaysia are adoption of sustainable construction, stringent legislation and rules and awareness and attitude. Lastly, in order to attain the research aim and objective, questionnaire are designed and distributed to the related respondent. Then, the result is calculated by using mean formula.
