Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate effects of looped band barbell squat training on muscle activation and strength on college trained male students. A total of 30 college trained male were recruited. Training programme was designed based on the ACSM’s Guideline. Subjects were delimited from Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TARUC) students. There were total of 30 subjects who aged from 18 to 25 years old. Subjects were divided into EG1 which training with looped band (n = 10), EG2 which training without looped band (n = 10) & CG without any intervention (n = 10) and randomly assigned by using systematic counter balancing method based on pre-test Z score result of 1RM. Normality test was conducted by using Shapiro wilk test. Experimental groups undergo 6 weeks of intervention, each session took around 45 minutes including warm up and cooldown session. Subjects were tested by 1RM for strength and EMG for muscle activation, Gluteus Maximus, Gluteus Medius, Bicep Femoris and Vastus Lateralis were tested in both leg. Data analysis showed that there was no significant improvement (p > .05) in 1RM between experimental groups and control group. But it showed significant on right bicep femoris p = .048. Furthermore, experimental groups showed significant improvement in 1RM, which proved that trained with only single type exercises able to improve in strength. This proved that looped band barbell squat training don’t have any effectiveness to improve strength compare to EG1.
