Abstract

The construction industry acts as an important role in the growth of Malaysia economy as it is one of the major contributors to the Malaysian level of productivity. However, according to the existing research, the construction industry in Malaysia is considered as a sector of poor quality and the overall construction projects in Malaysia did not achieve the expected output in term of project quality, time and cost. Therefore, the efficiency and performance of construction projects should be critically prioritised. In this research, the cultural factors and organisational culture will be studied to identify the cultural impacts on the performance of construction project organisation. These is due to the performance of the organisation directly influences the performance of the project. However, the awareness towards cultural issues and organisational culture remained low from time to time. Thus, this research is aims to identify the cultural factors; and investigate the impact of organisational culture on the efficiency and performance of projects in construction companies among contractors. The result revealed the overall level of awareness is relatively low but the level of agreement on statement of cultural factors and organisational culture is high. Further comparisons were made to evaluate the level of awareness and organisational culture statement in construction project organisations among the main business of company, company established years, and number of staffs employed. ANOVA also revealed that there is no significant difference between the characteristics of company and the cultural issues in the organisations. At the end of this research, it found out that low awareness but relatively high level of agreement on the cultural factor and organisational culture statement in construction project organisations among the respondents. The limitations of this research were low response rate, not cover larger areas in Malaysia and time constraints.
