Abstract

The Malaysia construction industry was contributed to high significant economic development compared with other sectors. Construction industry required high quality of the workforce to complete the building and infrastructure construction project. Therefore, local labour was become the fundamental workforce to carry out the construction work. After that, the construction industry has also required an influx of foreign worker to grow an advance workforce contributed to construction industry Malaysia. Deficiency of local labour was a controversial issue. It was caused insufficient workforce in many construction companies and only can seek workforce from other countries. Malaysia construction industry was facing a severe problem of labour shortages. It will bring adverse effects such as delay the progress of the project and pay for the compensation. This dissertation is intended to analyses the factor that caused the deficiency of local labour on Contractor Company. After that, this dissertation also determines the negative effect of overdependence on foreign worker and the negative impact arising by a lack of local labour contribute to a construction project. Moreover, this dissertation will discover the obstacles to overcome the deficiency of local labour issue. Last but not least, the opinion and experience will be obtained from the contractor company through the completed questionnaire survey. This dissertation will interpret the result and to identify the current situation of labour workforce in the construction industry through carrying out the data analysis, this dissertation will provide the recommendation of finding and future research which able to improve the worse situation of local labour shortage in construction industry Malaysia.
