Abstract

The green movement has been growing constantly while individuals and companies have only been building green homes for past thirty years. There were a numbers of reviewer review that there are several ways which can make a building eco-friendlier. Several research studies had been done to determine the challenges in implementing green building. However, the sustainable development is still considered slow in Malaysia. The main objective of this research study is to determine the challenges in implementing green building concept among contractors in Klang Valley. In order to carry out the study, the previous related study had been read through. The literature review consists of seven variables and they were used in questionnaire design. This current study used quantitative method to analyse the finding with the response from the questionnaire survey distributed. Through the collected data and computed analysis, there are three variables found out to be the most challenging variables in implementing green building in Klang Valley. The variables of “Lack of Demand” followed by “Higher Investment Cost” and “Lack of Building Codes and Regulations” are the variables determined in implementing green building development in Klang Valley. Furthermore, there are a few aspects to promote green building development is included in this study, for instance, economic factor, social factor, environmental factor and market factor that are discussed in this study. In a nut shell, there are several challenges in implementing green building development in Klang Valley in different aspects but there are also several ways to promote and implementing green building development with the aid of support from different parties.
