Abstract

The concept of construction waste management has been introduced around for a long time, but efforts to minimize waste have largely been followed without good practice. Due to the lack of attention that has been given to waste minimization, there has been a little allocation of funds or technology for waste prevention. This paper presents an overview of construction timber waste management in Klang Valley and analyzes the severity of timber produced. The problems affecting the reuse of timber waste in Klang Valley are discussed and the research activities in the Klang Valley are summarized. Construction site waste can be managed and minimized in three major ways: reduce, reuse, and recycle. The report concludes that minimizing waste should be the initial focus, with the area of awareness of timber waste among workers are the main reason causes timber waste each year. Awareness and implementation of construction timber waste reduction are of interest only in certain areas. Awareness should be raised in a more practical manner or incorporated into several key parameters to minimize waste in the early stages of construction.
