Abstract
Vertical Greening Systems (VGS) is a relatively new concept in Malaysia. Although there are some successful examples in Malaysia which benefits the environment and the building itself but the implementation of VGS in Malaysia is still slow compared to other developed countries such as our neighbour, Singapore. Thus, this research is aims to survey the current VGS application in Malaysian construction industry. The method adopted in the primary data collection is questionnaire survey through online and face-to-face delivery. By using descriptive analysis and ANOVA method, the result revealed that the overall VGS awareness level is at average. Further comparisons were made to evaluate the awareness level among the construction practitioners from different age group, working experience, academic level and job position. The results also show the overall VGS acceptance level is at average and the acceptance elements are ranked in sequence. The most acceptable element is the improvement of thermal insulation. The results at last revealed that the overall VGS problems in application is in level of above average. The problems are also ranked in sequence and the cost-related problems is the most significant. The limitations of this research were low response rate, time constraints and not covering other construction practitioners except Architect, Contractor and Sub-Contractor. Thus, future study may consider increase of sample sizes and integrated more data collection method.
