Abstract

In Malaysia, nature of construction works is still labour intensive. Therefore, foreign workers play a vital role in construction industry especially on site because it involves 3D jobs which represents dirty, dangerous and difficult which locals are not interested on it. Therefore, worker welfare is important as it create positive work culture, build teamwork to meet the challenges of the organization and increase efficiency for the workers. There are three objectives expected to achieved through this research which are to analyse whether the welfare facilities provided by contractors achieved the necessity of basic human needs, to identify the challenges faced by foreign workers whenever there is lack of provision on welfare facilities and to identify the relationship between foreign workers’ satisfaction level on welfare facilities and their work productivity. Comprehensive literature review has been done to gather the information on defining welfare, defining of construction worker, construction worker welfare, importance of worker welfare facilities, standard welfare, health and safety regulations on a construction site, challenges affecting workers due to lack of provision of welfare facilities, definition of work productivity and relationship between workers’ satisfaction level on welfare facilities and their work productivity. The method for the data collection is using questionnaire and interview in order to achieve different objectives of the study. There are two types of questionnaires distribute to foreign worker and supervisor in order to study different objective. First type of questionnaires consists 2 section with 13 questions in total while second type of questionnaires consist with 11 questions in total. Besides, there are 3 interview questions distributed to foreign worker who involving in questionnaire section. Data collection analysing by using SPSS software for questionnaire while interview using manual type to analyse the data.
