Abstract

The Malaysia construction industry was contributed high significant economic development compared with other sectors. Construction industry required a high quantity of workforce to complete the building and infrastructure construction project. Therefore, local labour was become the fundamental workforce to carry out the construction work. After that, construction industry was also required influx of foreign worker to become an advance workforce contributed into construction industry Malaysia. Deficiency of local labour was a controversial issue. It was caused insufficient of workforce in many construction companies and only can seek workforce from other country. Malaysia construction industry was facing a serious problem in labour shortages. It will bring negative effects such as delay the progress of project and pay for the compensation. This dissertation is to define the labour shortage and intended to analysis the factor that caused the local labour shortage on construction industry. Moreover, this dissertation also will discover the ways to overcome the problem of local labour shortage. Last but not least, the opinion and experience will be obtained from all the construction players from different nature of company through the completed questionnaire survey form. This dissertation will interpret the result and to identify the current situation of labour workforce in construction industry through carry out the data analysis. Depend on the data analysis, this dissertation will provide the recommendation of study which able to improve the worse situation of local labour shortage in construction industry Malaysia.
