Abstract

The research aims to study the use of reclaimed timber in construction industry in Malaysia. Three objectives were established for this research. The major challenges of using reclaimed timber in construction industry were unknown upfront time commitment and costs, deterioration and legitimacy. The benefits were pointed out in order on the use of reclaimed timber in construction industry. The current usage of reclaimed timber in construction industry were listed out through several, indicating the functional use of reclaimed timber. Besides, Relative Importance Index and Content Analysis are conducted where questionnaire was distributed. The results were tabulated, analysed and discussed in depth. The benefits and challenges related to the use of reclaimed timber also studied in terms of raking, stating the severity of each benefits and challenges. The results analysed further explained that the ecosystem was the most beneficial to be considered in the use of reclaimed timber in construction industry. The most significant challenges that using reclaimed timber was deterioration of reclaimed timber. Through Content Analysis, ways to overcome the challenges of using reclaimed timber in construction industry were established and further promote the use of reclaimed timber in construction industry in Malaysia. Recommendations were also provided on the basis of the limitations found throughout the conduct of this study. Ultimately, the aim would be achieved through the three objectives set.
