Abstract

In every outstanding construction project, there is definitely has an effective construction management to deliver satisfactory quality. However, many projects still adopt the traditional methods in monitoring progress and conducting inspection which result in time consuming, expensive and technically difficult. With the advanced technology, drone applications have proven their capability to become an alternative measure in monitoring construction progress and also can replace the traditional inspection methods by capturing images on construction site. Therefore, this research aims to explore the drone technology used in Malaysian construction industry. The research objectives are focuses on the types of drone technology currently being utilised in the construction industry and the effectiveness of drone application in a variety of construction contexts such as in surveying, aerial photography, inspection, safety monitoring, 3D modelling and sales and marketing purpose. Besides, this research is also investigated the challenges on implementing drone technology that faced by Malaysian construction players. In order to achieve the objectives of this research, questionnaire surveys and few interviews were used to collect primary data. The gathered primary data was then interpreted and analysed by using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The appropriate actions as well as the recommendations for promoting the presence of drone technology in construction industry were discussed in this study.
