Abstract

A green building is a building that, in its design, construction or operation, reduces or eliminates negative impacts, and can create positive impacts, on our climate and natural environment. Green building preserve precious natural resources and improve our quality of life. This study is aim to identify the benefits and barriers of implementation of green building in Malaysia and the successful factor to implement green building. As Malaysia targets to be a developed country by year 2020; the construction industry has since been recognized as a major catalyst for the country to attain the status. It is one of the sectors that contribute to most environmental pollutions. Therefore, significant for the industry to implement sustainable construction performs to reduce the negative impacts that is has on the environment. In this research, the developers registered under REDHA have been selected for the study respondents. A data collection through the questionnaire in Google Form has been collected from 127 developers in Kuala Lumpur. The data analysis shows the 54 out of 127 contractors had involved green construction project in Malaysia construction industry. The most important benefits of implementation of green building is bringing energy benefits to the building. The very serious barrier on the implementation of green building is higher initial cost to construct, followed by the lack of awareness and knowledge about the green building. The data collection for this study will be distributing the questionnaire to the target respondents and after that the result will be analyses by using Microsoft Excel and IBM SPSS statistics.
